American football, known simply as football in the U.S. and Canada, is a high-intensity sport often called “gridiron” due to the field’s marked lines. Two teams of eleven players compete on a rectangular field flanked by goalposts. The offensive team, holding possession of the oval-shaped ball, strategizes to move forward by running or throwing it, while the defense works to halt their progress and seize control. A critical rule demands the offense gain ten yards within four attempts (downs); failure means surrendering the ball. Success resets their downs, granting another chance to push toward the end zone. Scoring revolves around touchdowns, achieved by crossing into the opponent’s end zone, or field goals, earned by kicking the ball through the goalposts. Victory goes to the team with the highest points when time expires, blending strategy, teamwork, and physical grit to dominate the game.
