Might & Magic Heroes, originally titled Heroes of Might and Magic, is a fantasy-strategy video game series founded by Jon Van Caneghem under New World Computing. Debuting in 1995, the franchise centers on turn-based battles where players command mythical armies across tactical, story-driven campaigns. Ownership shifted when New World Computing was purchased by 3DO, later transferring to Ubisoft following 3DO’s dissolution. Post-Heroes IV, New World Computing ceased operations, leaving Ubisoft to steward the series. Nival Interactive revived the IP with Heroes V, the first entry under Ubisoft. Subsequent titles saw varied studios at the helm: Black Hole Entertainment crafted Heroes VI, while Limbic Entertainment oversaw updates, expansions, and the 2015-release Heroes VII. The standalone Shades of Darkness expansion for VI was developed by Virtuos, marking the series’ collaborative evolution across studios.
